Top 5 Over The Counter Viagra Alternatives
Note: None of these pills have been studied by the FDA. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
It’s been a really long time since I’ve written a post, and I do apologize for that.
I’ve just been very busy with other stuff, and have let some of the site go stale over time.
I figured it was high time that I push out an article for my readers, and one topic I’ve been thinking about writing about for a long time was over the counter viagra alternatives.
Throughout this article, I’ll be talking about a wide variety of pills that I’ve personally tested.
Many of these herbal ED pills (but not all) you can find at Walgreens, CVS, GNC, and other stores.
They are not ranked in any particular order, mainly because each individual will respond differently.
One thing is for sure, and that is they all work to a certain extent.
So How Do These Pills Work Like Viagra?
To understand the answer to this question, you must first understand how Viagra works.
According to Viagra.com, “Viagra works by increasing blood flow to the penis so you can get and keep an erection hard enough for sex.”
You’ll still require sexual stimulation, but once you are aroused you can be relatively sure that you will stay erect.
I’ve taken Viagra many times in the past, and can attest to its effectiveness.
Unfortunately, despite many sites telling you otherwise, Viagra is not available over the counter.
In the USA, you can’t just walk into any drug store and pick it up off the shelf like you would something like Advil or Tylenol.
With that said, there are several suitable OTC erection pill alternatives that may work.
Why Are You Looking For A Viagra Alternative?
Like most medications, Viagra has a bunch of unwanted effects that come about with its use. These include things like:
- Headache
- Facial flushing
- Upset Stomach
- Abnormal Vision
- Runny Nose
- Back pain
- Muscle pain
- Nausea
Source: Viagra.com
Because Viagra is a PDE-5 inhibitor, it can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly.
If you’re already taking medications that lower blood pressure, this can cause them to drop to an unsafe level.
So in short, Viagra is not right for everyone.
This is where over the counter ed pills come into play. If you have any specific questions on any of these, just leave your comment below and I’ll get to it as soon as I can.
#1 Over The Counter Viagra Alternative: Extenze
Extenze has been one of my go-to otc viagra alternatives for years now.
It’s actually been around for a really long time now, and is one of the most well known (and trusted) brands on the market.
The first time I tried out Extenze (the original one, that is), I was sick as a dog. They put way too much yohimbe in it, and I spent most of the afternoon laying on the couch watching Dexter reruns.
About 2 years later is when I discovered Extenze Plus fast-acting.
Extenze Plus is basically the “new and improved” version that came out around 2008.
I happen to come across it while I was browsing for new erection pills to test out.
Extenze contains a ‘sexual response enhancement blend’, which includes ingredients like:
- Tribulus Terrestris
- Yohimbe Bark Extract
- Horny Goat Weed
- Muira Puama
- Korean Ginseng
- L-Arginine
- Zinc
- DHEA
- Eluethero Extract
- GABA
- Barrenwort extract
- Damiana leaf
- Pumpkin Seed Extract
- Astragalus
- Fo-Ti
- Hops extract
- Boron
It also contains micronized DHEA, which is really just a fancy word for DHEA.
So how does Extenze work like Viagra?
Well, the secret is in the combination of L-Arginine, Yohimbe, and Horny Goat Weed.
In fact, the combination of L-Arginine and Yohimbe was clinically studied and proven effective at helping with mild to moderate ED symptoms. (Source)
You can find this exact combination in dozens of other supplements, but for whatever reason those other pills don’t seem to work nearly as well.
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they put in just the right amount of each ingredient to keep side effects to a minimum.
What Can I Expect With Extenze Plus?
For starters, Extenze Plus tends to kick in just as quick as Viagra.
Often you’ll start feeling the effects within the first 20 – 30 min., sometimes sooner.
It all varies with the individual, but you can expect the following benefits:
- Increased stamina and control
- Lowered premature ejaculation
- Improved lasting power
Where Can I Buy It?
You can find Extenze Plus literally everywhere. I’ve seen it in stores like GNC, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, even my local Publix carried it for a short period of time.
I personally think that your best bet is to purchase it on their official website, mainly because you can take advantage of their money back guarantee.
Wherever you decide to buy it, just make sure you save the receipt in case you need to return it for any reason.
#2 Over The Counter Viagra: Hardon Helper
Hardon Helper is by far the best OTC Viagra substitute I have ever used, and that’s a pretty big statement coming from a guy who’s tested about 97 different sex enhancers since 2008.
It was founded in 2017 by a company called Dr. Seltzer, who used to make a product called “the Hangover Helper”.
If you couldn’t guess from the name, Hangover Helper was formulated to help relieve hangovers!
Unlike many of the other pills on this page, Hardon Helper contains a variety of different ingredients that you probably have never even heard of.
The full ingredients list includes the following:
- Epimedium leaf extract: 120 mg
- Panax Ginseng: 70 mg
- American Ginseng: 70 mg
- Wild Yam: 40 mg
- Wolfberry fruit: 40 mg
- Rou Cong Rong: 30 mg
- Chinese Raspberry: 30 mg
- Gordon Euryale Seed: 20 mg
- Schisandra fruit: 20 mg
- Poria: 15 mg
- Longan Aril: 30 mg
If you read my Hardon Helper review, you’ll see that it not only works very similarly to Viagra, but it does so without the headaches!
Headaches are some of the most common side effects associated with Viagra use, and it’s one of the main reasons why I don’t like to take it.
How Does Hardon Helper Work Like Viagra?
The specific ingredients that may help with ED related issues are Epimedium, Panax Ginseng, and Wolfberry Fruit.
The ingredient Epimedium (which is sometimes referred to as Horny Goat Weed) has been shown in limited clinical studies to help relieve symptoms of ED. (Source)
Panax Ginseng (sometimes called ‘red ginseng’), was shown in a clinical study to help in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. (Source)
It should be noted, however, that the study was not conclusive, and more research is needed.
What Can I Expect From Hardon Helper?
Hardon Helper works fast, and you can expect to feel the results in as little as 15 min. What’s strange is, just like with Viagra, it does seem to produce a bit of facial flushing and lightheaded within the first 30 min.
It’s not an uncomfortable feeling, but it’s something that you sort of have to get used to.
Just like with Viagra, you also need to be physically stimulated for it to start working its magic. Once it does, the effects are enormous. You’ll experience harder erections, better control, and it may help you last longer.
Where Can I Buy It?
Hardon Helper is available both on Amazon, and their official website. Unlike many of the others on this page, it’s a bit more expensive.
For example, a single pack of Hardon Helper on their site is listed at $10.99.
Of course you can save by purchasing larger quantities, which is what I suggest you do after testing it out yourself.
#3 Over The Counter Viagra Alternative: Reliable Richard
This is another very effective alternative I’ve tested. The first tine I heard about Reliable Richard was when one of my site visitors sent me an email asking if I had ever tried it.
He was raving about how effective it was, and even said that it worked better than Hardon Helper.
“Now this is something I need to check out!“, I was thinking.
I ended up buying a sample pack of their original formula, and was actually really impressed with my results.
How does Reliable Richard Work Like Viagra?
Just like with the others, Reliable Richard “relies” on a mix of proprietary ingredients that may help to improve overall erection quality.
Those ingredients include things like:
- Astragalus Membranaceus
- Ku Gua
- Herba Epimedii
- Herba Cistanches
- Horny Goat weed
Unlike many other viagra alternatives listed on this page, these ingredients are very unique.
For example, I’ve never seen the ingredient Astragalus Membranaceus listed in any other ED pill.
According to several sources, Astragalus Membranaceus works to protect against inflammation and gastrointestinal cancers.
How may it help with ED?
Well, it turns out that it’s been shown to increase blood flow to certain areas of the body to speed up wound healing.
Herba Epimedii has been shown to be an effective anti-oxidant, making it effective against oxidative-stress related pathologies like cardiovascular diseases.
What Can I Expect With Reliable Richard?
Just like with Hardon Helper, Reliable Richard kicks in quick. The first thing you’ll notice is that you’ll be lasting way longer than you normally would. For me, a typical sexual encounter will last about 10 – 15 min.
With Reliable Richard, it can last as long as 30 – 40 minutes, depending on several factors.
Where Can I Buy Reliable Richard?
According to my research, Reliable Richard is available in 3 places: their website, Amazon, and eBay. I personally bought it off of their official site, mainly because it was a bit cheaper there.
In any event, I would recommend you start off with their original formula because that’s what seems to work the best.
#4 Over The Counter Viagra: MuscleTech Test HD Black Onyx
Unlike Extenze and Hardon Helper, MuscleTech Test HD Black Onyx takes a completely different approach to sexual dysfunction.
It’s not the standard “take as needed” herbal viagra you might be used to looking at.
Instead of working right away, it’s designed to be taken over a course of several weeks.
How Does Black Onyx Work Like Viagra?
The ingredients in Black Onyx are designed to stimulate free testosterone growth and reduce cortisol.
According to GNC.com, it can help to boost testosterone in as little as 7 days.
So how exactly does a testosterone booster work as a Viagra alternative?
Well, the secret is in the ingredients.
Black Onyx packs their pills with a healthy dose of D-Aspartic Acid, which has been shown in limited clinical studies to increase testosterone in young and middle aged men.
While testosterone treatment usually isn’t helpful for ED, Black Onyx contains several other ingredients that may help with erection quality, including:
- Longjack extract
- Asian Ginseng
- Stinging Nettle Extract
- Ashwaghanda extract
What’s interesting to note is that none of the reviews of Black Onyx show it as being particularly effective at helping with erections.
What Can I Expect With Black Onyx?
Unlike the other viagra alternatives listed on this page, Black Onyx takes a really long time to kick in.
This is not the type of ed pill that you take 30 min. before sex.
It’s designed to build up in your system over time, and you can expect to feel the sexual-enhancing benefits after about 14 days.
Where Can You Buy Black Onyx?
This particular Viagra alternative is available at GNC at an average price of $69.99. You can get it $10 cheaper if you’re a GNC gold card member.
Other online retailers that carry it include:
- Amazon: $79.50
- Bodybuilding.com: $86.99
- Muscletech.com: $69.99
#5 Over The Counter Viagra Alternative: Mr. Thick
This is a supplement I came across almost by accident. I happen to be looking up the best otc ed pills of 2018, when I saw that it was very highly rated on Amazon.
Of course, this doesn’t really mean that much, mainly because reviews can be manipulated on there.
However, at a price of just $14.20 per bottle, I knew I had to look into it deeper. If you’re looking for an effective over the counter viagra alternative at Amazon, this just might be it!
How Does Mr. Thick Work Like Viagra?
As usual, the secret is in the sauce. Mr. Thick contains several potent ingredients that have been used in a wide variety of other natural viagra pills. They include things like:
- Maca
- Sarsaparilla Root Extract
- L-Arginine
- Panax Ginseng
- Muira Puama Bark extract
- Cayenne Pepper
- Tribulus Terrestris
- Orchic Powder
- Oyster extract
This nice thing about Mr. Thick is that it does NOT contain any yohimbe. If you’ve read about any of my other experiments with yohimbe (like zyrexin, libido max, and Extenze Liquid), you’ll know that I’m not a fan.
While it does work great as an OTC erection pill, it often carries a number of side effects. Those include things like:
- Upset stomach
- Excitation
- Tremor
- Sleep issues
- Anxiety
- High blood pressure
- Drooling
- Frequent urination
- Bloating
- Nausea
Oftentimes, the side effects are so unpleasant that it’s just not even worth it.
Luckily, Mr. Thick doesn’t contain any.
Where Can You Buy Mr. Thick?
As of this review, the only 2 places you can buy Mr. Thick is Amazon and Ebay.
Ebay sells it the cheapest, at $11.33 per bottle, and Amazon sells each bottle at an average price of $14.20.
As of this review, Mr. Thick is not available in stores.
Other Alternatives To Viagra
There are several other alternatives to Viagra that are available on the market.
Unfortunately none of these are available over the counter (legally, of course), but they are often easy to get with a simple doctors visit.
You can visit UrologyHealth.com to find a urologist near you that can help treat your erectile dysfunction issues.
Some of the more common Viagra prescription alternatives include:
Treating The Root Cause Of Your ED
Another alternative that most guys tend to gloss over is trying to figure out exactly where your ED stems from.
There are several questions you should be asking yourself before you even consider taking over the counter viagra, including:
“Are you taking any medications?” – Click Here to see a list of medications that cause erectile dysfunction.
“Do you have heart disease or a narrowing of the blood vessels?” – Read about the symptoms and causes of heart disease here.
“Do you have diabetes?” – Click here to see why diabetes can cause ED.
Oftentimes, it makes sense to identify the root cause of your erectile dysfunction before determining if prescription therapy if the best route to go.
However, if you are looking for something to help right away, than I would definitely recommend giving these erection pills near you a shot.
